Tahltan Procon JV: A 27-Year Partnership Built on Trust, Expertise, and Shared Values
Over a remarkable 27-year partnership, the Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) and Procon Mining & Tunnelling have forged one of the longest-standing and most successful Indigenous–industry collaborations in Canada. The partnership brings together Procon’s extensive underground mining expertise with the Tahltan Nation’s knowledge, stewardship values, rich mining history, and leadership within the region.
Procon, a Silver-certified partner under the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB) Progressive Aboriginal Relations program, is recognized among Canada’s leading underground mining contractors. For more than three decades, Procon has delivered safe, efficient underground development and production across the country—placing strong emphasis on meaningful Indigenous partnerships and successfully executing projects in remote, challenging environments.
At Newmont’s Brucejack Mine, the Tahltan Procon Joint Venture has been operating for over eight years, providing underground development, production mining, backfill, and support services. The joint venture employs more than 300 dedicated workers, manages a fleet of over 90 underground vehicles, and maintains a comprehensive site inventory to ensure continuous operations. Working within a glacier-accessed environment, the team has demonstrated exceptional capability in tackling complex logistics while upholding the highest safety and operational standards.
This enduring partnership exemplifies how collaboration, trust, and shared purpose can deliver lasting economic, environmental, and community benefits for generations to come.
